Membership Benefits

The Post-Tensioning Institute of Australia (PTIA) was formed to represent the post-tensioning contracting industry in Australia, seeking to maintain a viable and competent industry with high standards in design and construction of post-tensioning systems for the benefits of its members, their employees, and their clients.

Benefits

For clients such as building owners and building contractors, specifying PTIA members for contracts provides confidence that the post-tensioning contractor and their materials and equipment suppliers comply with relevant Australian standards, meet the PTIA’s strict membership criteria as verified by a third party certifier (David Hicks & Co), and avoids the time and cost of conducting a separate verification process.

PTIA corporate members (post-tensioning contractors) are required to meet specific QA specifications, maintain specific minimum insurance levels, maintain QA, OH&S and Environmental management plans, and maintain trained and qualified staff.  For more details, refer to the PTIA’s web site.

For post-tensioning contractors, corporate membership of the PTIA enables them to demonstrate a high level of competency as verified by an independent certifier.  It is the aim of the PTIA that client organisations will specify or give preference to PTIA Corporate members for post-tensioning contracts.

For materials and equipment suppliers, consulting firms and software providers, associate membership also demonstrates specific levels of competence, as well as being preferred suppliers by post-tensioning contractor members.  Consulting engineering firms who are members of PTIA also receive substantial fees subsidies for PT Workshops conducted by Cement & Concrete Services.

For all members, membership of the PTIA offers many benefits including –

·     recognition of high standards in the post-tensioning industry

·     opportunity for communication and interaction with peers

·     representation by PTIA on Standards committees

·     access to new technical information from PTIA website and seminars

·     access to training schemes

·     links to your company website

·    quarterly newsletter, including opportunity to provide articles of interest about the member’s products and services (nominal ½ A4 page)

·     participation on PTIA technical committees

Rights and responsibilities

Members have the right to nominate directors of the PTIA and to vote at annual general meetings.  Members will receive advice of new developments in the industry and of relevant seminars.  Members will have access to a ‘member only’ area of the PTIA web site.

All members are required to agree to the members’ liability (maximum of $20.00) in the event of winding up of the Institute.  All members agree to be bound by the constitution of the PTIA.

All members must notify the PTIA of a change in their address within 7 days of such change.

Corporate and Associate members must maintain their certification of membership criteria and must abide by the PTIA’s code of ethics.

Membership Information

The Post-Tensioning Institute of Australia (PTIA) was formed to represent the post-tensioning contracting industry in Australia, seeking to maintain a viable and competent industry with high standards in design and construction of post-tensioning systems for the benefits of its members, their employees, and their clients.

Membership of the PTIA is open to organisations and individuals who have an interest in post-tensioning consistent with the objects of the PTIA, namely –

(a)       to ensure that the post-tensioning contracting industry is both viable and competitive, and

(b)      to promote high standards in design, construction and materials for post-tensioning systems, consistent with world best practice, and verified by certification of its Corporate and Associate Members, and

(c)       to develop industry work standards which establish appropriate skills of employees, personal development opportunities, a safe working environment, and environmental responsibility, and

(d)      to achieve ongoing technical advances in materials and systems for post-tensioning.

All members agree to be bound by the Constitution of the PTIA and its Code of Ethics.

There are four categories of membership, namely – Corporate, Associate, Association and Individual.  Fees for membership are shown in the table below.

Corporate and some Associate members are required to meet specific criteria which identify technical competence, insurance cover, management plans and resources.  These members are required to be audited by the PTIA’s contract auditor to ensure the criteria are met, and to maintain these criteria whilst a member of the PTIA.  Audit costs are met by the PTIA.

Where a Corporate or Associate member has one or more subsidiaries or other companies belonging to its group, only those entities which individually meet the membership criteria may be included  under the company’s membership.

Applications for Membership are to be made on the appropriate form accompanied by the documentation requested and the joining fee where applicable.  Joining fees are non refundable.  Membership applications will be considered by the Board of the PTIA at its next meeting.  Upon acceptance, the applicant will become a member of the Institute and will be notified within 7 days of the Board’s decision.  The Annual Subscription will be due for payment within 28 days of acceptance as a member.
